500,000 schoolchildren in California signed a petition asking Philadelphians to send the Liberty Bell to the Panama-Pacifc International Expo of San Francisco in 1915. The Bell made it's trip via train. Here is a picture of the crowd waiting for the train to pass by in Harrisburg, PA:
