Ya'll will have to bear with me because I'm reading the transcripts from the debate and some of the comments are so perplexing to me that I just have to work out it somewhere, so where better than here?
KERRY: And smart means not diverting your attention from the real war on terror in Afghanistan against Osama bin Laden and taking it off to Iraq where the 9/11 Commission confirms there was no connection to 9/11 itself and Saddam Hussein, and where the reason for going to war was weapons of mass destruction, not the removal of Saddam Hussein.......they know I would not take my eye off of the goal: Osama bin Laden.
So there are no terrorists in Iraq? None? We are *stupid* if we think that Al-Queda is only in Afghanistan. That's what I'm taking him to say. It would absolutely be a coup if we got Osama. But that won't be the end of Al Queda. They can operate without him. Yes, we were sold the war in Iraq based on WMD's, but isn't it good to know that a ferocious dictator who tortures his own people is out of power? That he isn't there to make a deal with Al Queda?
BUSH: My opponent says help is on the way, but what kind of message does it say to our troops in harm's way, wrong war, wrong place, wrong time ? Not a message a commander in chief gives, or this is a great diversion. Touche.
As well, help is on the way, but it's certainly hard to tell it when he voted against the $87-billion supplemental to provide equipment for our troops, and then said he actually did vote for it before he voted against it.
Not what a commander in chief does when you're trying to lead troops.
LEHRER: Senator Kerry, 30 seconds.
KERRY: Well, you know, when I talked about the $87 billion, I made a mistake in how I talk about the war. But the president made a mistake in invading Iraq. Which is worse?
Let me point the finger to get everyone off topic that I flip-flopped. *sigh*.....To save for Halliburton the spoils of the war, they actually issued a memorandum from the Defense Department saying, If you weren't with us in the war, don't bother applying for any construction. That's not a way to invite people. Why should those who weren't willing to fight for freedom in Iraq benefit by new construction? I'm *glad* they weren't able to come in and make money re-constructing when they didn't want to help with the hard part!
Oh lord, this is all just too much for my little brain to digest. I've listened to liberal talk radio & conservative talk radio & I still fail to see how Kerry "won" this debate. My vote is still with Bush.
